SMART GOAL SETTING
S = Specific
M= Measurable
A = Attainable
R= Realistic
T = Timely

Specific
Goals should be really specific meaning straightforward and what you really want to happen.
Specific is What Why and the How?
What are you going to do? Use action words such as direct, organize, coordinate, lead and develop
Why is this important to do at this time? What do you ultimately accomplish?
How are you going to do it?
Your goals should be specific and clear and easy.
Measurable
If you can’t measure it you cannot manage it. Small easy daily steps are key to your success. You want to think of small wins. Try using a Daily Accountability Checklist to track your progress. Starting first thing in the morning from eating a healthy breakfast to when you get into to the office and start prospecting for more customers. This way you can track your daily progress and see where you have improved and where you need to make some changes.
Attainable
Being attainable is all about your habits and behaviors and having a strong vision for what you want to attain. When looking at your vision, think about what you want personally, professionally, your love life, your family and your spirituality. This will help you get centered on your life goals.
Realistic
Realistic means doable, but for the dreamers out there this is boring. So why I am ok with setting realistic goals if you are an entrepreneur who is willing to take risks then go big with a big sexy goal that is inspiring.
Timely
Your goals will never happen if you don’t set a deadline. That is why to do list are ongoing. They are just simply to do’s. Take your to do list and put it in your calendar to start chopping away and the never ending list of things that you need to get done. This is an awesome way to be superproductive!

Most Realtors know that the selling season is springtime. What many fail to realize is the official 2nd selling season is the day after labor day. Now I know many of you are thinking shouldn’t always be selling season? If you have been in business long enough you know that summertime always slows down; Realtors are on vacation, kids are home from school, sellers pull their home off the market, or let’s just be honest we just don’t feel like working that hard.

The day after Labor Day almost feels like January 1 for me. Since I have 5 kids and they are all back in school it is back to business and a home office that can actually function like a home office. This is what I am doing with my current coaching clients and I wanted to share it all with you. We have 4 months left until the end of the year; I want you to ask yourself these questions?

How has my year been so far?

Am I behind, on track, or ahead of schedule?

What has been my biggest challenge?

What is currently working in my business?

What isn’t working? What patterns and or behaviors do I need to give up in order to achieve my goals?

Then the last thing we cover is follow up. I want you to write down how much it has cost you this year by not following up with your clients and or past clients. This includes leads that you may have from an open house or a sign call too. Typically it is a pretty big number.

Let’s just say you didn’t follow up with one good lead per month this year, and your average commission check is $5,000, we have went thru 8 months already that is $40,000! If that doesn’t motivate you to go right now thru your database or for some of you that white sea of paper on your desk with all the sticky notes, I don’t know what will. You have heard the saying the fortune is in the follow up and typically this is the number one reason why your business this year is not where it should be.

So I will say it again, the 2nd selling season is here! If you haven’t had a great year, claim today as January 1st and start 2011 today. Don’t make the mistake of falling into the holiday trap that carries that laziness over into January and you find yourself without a paycheck until March! Ouch! Make that one small change today to clean up and follow up with all your leads and past clients and I promise you your business will be off to a fantastic start for this 2nd selling season!
